My "block"

To me the Yarra river means a whole range of things. Such as Life. Light. Shade. Movement and colour contained by the water and the water itself.

I compel the observer to stand on the bank and see what is in the water. Peer into its depth and follow the flow and the changing colours.

I leave it up to the imagination of the observer to "identify" creatures and vegetation depicted.

I have used a number of techniques and fabrics for this block.

Piece by Crista van Spankeren

A brown based fabric with a “light and shade” print for the river bed and the bank.

I arranged a formation of creatures with pumpkin seeds on the river bed.

A blue and green “watery” print which I modelled into wavelets with machine stitching.

Detail

I created vegetation with the use of netting and hand embroidery.

Hoping that this block will be helpful within the larger plan. My kind regards Ciska
