I have many memories of the Yarra from an early age, but probably one of the most life-
changing was in the early 1960s, when I spent a weekend at the Guides Association property at Wonga
Park, camping under canvas for the first time. I remember a lovely, treed area sloping north, with the
Yarra flowing quietly past at the bottom of the slope. This is what I have tried to represent in my block.
The property has long since been disposed of by the Guides Association and I think it has now been
incorporated into the State Park.
I went on to take girls camping myself, did a five week camping tour of Europe and have spent many enjoyable weekends camping in different parts of Victoria as a member of the Ringwood Field Naturalists Club. It all began at Wonga Park.
