Lyn Duffton

.....my Yarra Dreaming......

Long, long ago when the world was not as it is now the Yarra River was a huge inland sea. Mists swirled and rose from its depths and flew up and over forming into clouds that drifted ever further afield seeking friends.

Part of work by Lyn Duffton. Text is reproduced above.

They met a huge sea and began a love song of surging and retreating, moving and withdrawing. The land groaned beneath the waters, pulling back, until with an almighty explosion Bunjl rose from the depths and with huge wings outstretched and talons forward he threw away the rocks and boulders in his path. With a roar that sent animals and people running in terror he flew forwards, the waters streaming from his huge wings.

His sharp beak gouged the soft ground and behind him the waters flowed, until with an answering sigh the sea broke through the opening land and joined the newly formed river.

Now each night the clouds return to their home in the Yarra mountains; they rest there refreshing themselves and the place that was once their home. Look after it.
